BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The parking garage on the west side of the Baton Rouge River Center is closed after an accident that has made parking unsafe.

According to the Baton Rouge Business Report, a contractor was making modifications to the garage when he accidentally cut a tension cable. The cable runs through concrete slabs on the first floor of the garage. Officials said the cut cable makes it unsafe for people to park.

"They're reconfiguring the entrance and exits to the garage as part of two-laning of St. Louis and St. Ferdinand Street and so, they actually cut a tension rod, so they're figuring how to repair it," said Davis Rhorer with the Downtown Development District.

He added city crews will meet Thursday to determine how to restore that tension rod provided to the concrete, making it stronger.

The parking garage that is closed is the smaller one and can hold more than 500 cars. It is unknown how long the garage will be closed.

Officials said drivers can use the larger River Center parking garage and one on Third Street for the final Live After Five of the season.
