PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - Officials with Placid Refining Company in Port Allen say a small fire that broke out in the crude unit Thursday afternoon had no off-site impact and minimal damage has been reported.
The fire broke out around 5:15 p.m. at the refinery located at 1940 La Highway 1 N. in Port Allen.
The company's spokesman, Rafael Bermudez says it took less than 30 minutes for the on-site fire brigade to put out the fire. He also says there were no injuries reported in the fire.
Only the crude unit was affected by the fire. The rest of the refinery is operational at this time.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
The refinery produces transportation fuels which are distributed across the southeastern United States.
