BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - U.S. Senator David Vitter says the United States needs to impose flight restrictions immediately to help stop the spread of Ebola.

The senator stopped by the Louisiana Capitol Thursday and asked state representatives to make the flight restriction request to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Vitter says the request has to come from individual states and he hopes that pressure will lead to no fly lists of non-U.S. citizens traveling from Ebola affected areas.

This comes in response to an Ebola outbreak in West Africa where the death toll has climbed above 4,500, mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and New Guinea, the World Health Organization said.

A committee is hearing testimony throughout the day from state officials on Louisiana's preparation for Ebola.
