Man arrested for murder; community holds vigil for shooting victim

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Baton Rouge man has been arrested and charged with first degree murder, armed robbery and illegal use of a weapon after a Monday evening shooting that left a 21-year-old man dead.

The shooting happened in the 5000 block of Madison Avenue in Baton Rouge around 8:45 p.m. When police arrived, they found Calvin Chrisentary was shot in the back He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Wednesday afternoon, 21-year-old Hardy Allen was arrested after a tip came in through Crime Stoppers.

He will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Just moments before Allen was arrested, family and friends held a vigil for Chrisentary, to remember his life. "Stop the Violence" is their message.

They say it is time to put an end to senseless violence because too many young men and women have become victims in their community. But ending the violence will require a group effort.

"It's time for us to come together as a whole and put a stop to this mess," said Keon Preston. "It is time for us to come together and start loving again."
