St. George leaders speak at local luncheon

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Chairman Norman Browning and other leaders of the St. George incorporation movement spoke at the Ronald Reagan Newsmaker Luncheon on Tuesday.

Browning touched on topics regarding the proposed City of St. George including the recent annexations.

Browning said the annexation of the Mall of Louisiana and the L'Auberge Casino would cost St. George an estimated 16 million dollars.

Despite this, Browning believes there will still be up to 5 million dollars in surplus.

Browning also discussed how the annexation would change how the St. George Fire Department runs and force Baton Rouge to add more fire stations.

"Sometimes when they take these areas, depending on what they have to take to get these areas, I have to believe they're taking the expenses away as well," said Browning. "So those things will just have to be addressed."

The deadline for St. George leaders to submit the proposal for a December vote is October 21.
