GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Seven parishes are getting grants from the state Department of Education to prepare students for what comes after high school.
Ascension Parish is one of the districts that was awarded a $75,000 grant. The state Superintendent of Education John White made the announcement to a group of school employees and business owners Monday.
The grant will focus on children in middle school and ninth grade, giving career counseling to those who may not go to college after graduation.
"We've got to make sure that those kids have the opportunity to continue their education and to equip themselves to be ready to have a middle class job and provide for their families in Louisiana," said White.
White added that showing them career and technical education is just as important.
