Baton Rouge man arrested for hate crime

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge man has been arrested for what police are calling a hate crime.

Kelley Pearsall was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and a hate crime after police were called to a disturbance in the 800 block of Violet Street in Baton Rouge. The caller said Pearsall made verbal threats while pointing a long gun in their direction. The caller also said the suspect yelled a racial slur.

Officials say Pearsall told them that he had been getting robbed and he was tired of the trouble in his neighborhood. He admitted to having a long gun, but said he was just moving it from his car into his house.

The gun was later determined to be a pellet gun.

Pearsall was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond has been set for $12,000.
