GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Gov. Bobby Jindal has set the date for the Gonzales special recall election for Dec. 6. The governor's office confirmed the date late Friday afternoon.

The Save Gonzales Committee claims Councilmen Gary Lacombe and Timothy Vessel are responsible for crippling economic growth in the city. The recall effort began shortly after the pair voted against a rezoning measure that would have allowed two businesses to move inside city limits.

"We are certainly pleased the governor called the election for Dec. 6," sais Mayor Barney Arceneaux.  "Our goal is to get Gonzales back on the right track. We think that will happen on Dec. 6 and we will eventually have people who truly care for Gonzales working with us."

Robert Poche, registrar of voters for Ascension Parish, confirmed that he verified the 2,145 signatures needed to get the recall on the ballot.
