PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A grand jury in Ascension Parish has decided not to bring charges against a woman accused of causing a wreck that killed two children in Prairieville.
The grand jury came back with a no true bill decision Friday, according to District Attorney Ricky Babin.
Investigators said the children were fishing down an embankment with their father and two adult family friends in June when a 2004 Nissan Armada driven by Shawnette Taylor, 47, of Prairieville, veered off the roadway and hit the group. The three adults were injured, but survived.
Sarai Lanus, 9, of Geismar, and her brother, Daylon, 6, were killed. Both children attended Dutchtown Primary School.
The grand jury's decision follows State Police's findings in August to not file charges against Taylor saying they could not prove any criminal negligence.
