BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Fire investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a blaze early Friday morning that caused a woman to jump out of a window to escape.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it started at a large home on North 37th Street around 5 a.m.
Firefighters said they arrived at the house and saw flames shooting out the back. They added they made their way to a back room where they found the fire, which had gotten into the attic.
Mark Miles with BRFD said they learned the woman renting the house was asleep when the fire started and was awakened by the smoke. She reportedly jumped out of a window, but was not injured. A dog died in the fire.
Miles also said the home has heavy fire and smoke damage.
