BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There has been another blow to the efforts of incorporating the area of St. George. Several landowners have filed petitions for annexation from the area, and on Wednesday, LSU has done the same.
The LSU Board of Supervisors submitted a petition for annexation of the University's Ben Hur Research Station and Fire and Emergency Training Institute. Both areas are located in the St. George area.
On Tuesday, L'Auberge Hotel and Casino submitted its annexation request.
"This is a continued attempt by the city of Baton Rouge working to invalidate the petition of incorporating the city of St. George," said Lionel Rainey, spokesman for St. George.
"LSU and the city of Baton Rouge have a mutually beneficial relationship," said Dr. F. King Alexander, Chancellor and System President for LSU. "We prefer to remain part of this city, where we have been since 1869. We find no justification to merit having our land divided between two jurisdictions, and have concerns that such division could adversely impact services critical to our students."
