BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - People in St. John Parish sound off with concerns about drinking water.

"We've been working at this for over a year now. The rest of the country is looking at us and how we're doing this."

State health officials say Louisiana is ahead of the game and that other states may have it too.

St. John is in the midst of a chlorine burn to kill the Amoeba and other bacteria after it was found almost two months ago in the parish water system, but residents still don't trust the parish.

The Water District insists that tap water is safe to drink, but it's crucial not to get water up your nose.
