BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - People in the city have been complaining about sewage problems and want the problems to be fixed.
Residents at a local apartment complex have sewage flowing out from a drainage pipe. Toilet paper and everything in between is sitting right outside their front yards. Flies have even made a new home there. A woman, who didn't want to be identified, said the problem started about a week ago and she wants to get it fixed.
"It's disgusting, nasty, and unsanitary," she said. "No one should have to live right next to this."
She wasn't the only one having sewage problems. Not far away, on Carolina Street, people were going through a similar situation. Benny Thomas, who has lived in the neighborhood for 15 years, said the pond of sewage in the street has made life tough.
"The sewage has a terrible odor," said Thomas. "You have kids trying to go to school and they have to walk in the middle of the street because they can't get to the side walk."
9news contacted the Department of Public Works (DPW) about several sewer issues. They said they are looking into the issue.
If you have a sewage problem in East Baton Rouge Parish call 3-1-1. That's DPW's help line.
