BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana has been recognized again for being among the top states for combating human trafficking. It ranks as a Tier 1 state for the third year in a row, according to Polaris, a leader in the global fight against modern slavery.
Officials cited the state for strengthening penalties for human traffickers and protecting victims of crime.
"We will continue building off of the work we accomplished last session to harshen penalties for human trafficking and connect victims with the protection and services they need," said Gov. Bobby Jindal. "Together, we can end this modern form of slavery."
