BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Representatives from 18 nations walked through East Baton Rouge Parish's south sewage treatment plant Tuesday.
A group of worldwide water environment officials meets in New Orleans every other year and this year, Baton Rouge is on the tour list.
Part of the reason it was chosen may be its upgrade.
"We've got the ongoing SSO program," Adam Smith, chief of wastewater engineering, said. "We're spending about $1.6 million upgrading the sewer system throughout the parish. So, it is a good thing for us."
There are 25,000 wastewater professionals visiting New Orleans.
