Daughter, granddaughter charged in death of elderly woman

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police have arrested the daughter and granddaughter of an elderly woman found dead in her home.

Joleslie Looney, 53, and Lauren Looney, 17, have been charged with cruelty to the infirmed.

Police found Bessie Looney, 82, dead in her home on Acadian West. They also observed a large amount of flies throughout the house and feces and trash covering the floors including Bessie's room. Detectives also found the victim had several bed sores and signs of malnourishment.

The two suspects were Bessie's primary caregivers. Police say they had knowledge of her condition, but failed to seek medical help.

They were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
