Denham Springs plans Mayoral debate for Nov. elections

DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -

As Election Day nears, Denham Springs is gearing up to elect its first new Mayor in more than a decade.

The two candidates, Gerard Landry and John Wascom, will participate in the debate on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. in the gym at Denham Springs High School. The debate is hosted by the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce.

Landry is currently a member of Denham Springs' planning and zoning committee. Wascom has been a city councilman for 16 years.

A series of preselected questions, with opportunity for rebuttal, will be asked of the mayoral candidates. Questions will not be presented to candidates in advance. The Chamber is accepting questions from the public. Questions will be accepted through October 3rd and the Chamber will utilize those with a recurring topic.

The current mayor of Denham Springs, Jimmy Durbin, was elected in 2002.

Denham Springs City Council candidates will also be introduced; thus far, eleven of the twelve candidates have confirmed. Candidates for city council will be introduced first and have an opportunity to speak to the attendees. No questions will be accepted for council candidates.
