ST. MARTINVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

A man who cut his wrists and throat with a razorblade inside the courtroom in July after being convicted of five counts of aggravated incest, has been sentenced to 35 years of hard labor without the benefit of parole.

Robbie Frith, 57, of St. Martinville was convicted of sexually assaulting five juveniles from 2009 until 2011. His sentencing hearing was Friday.

An investigation was initiated on November 5, 2011 in reference to the alleged sexual assault of two juveniles. During the investigation, three additional juveniles came forward saying they were sexually abused by Frith. He was initially charged with aggravated incest and aggravated rape.

Reports say Frith was out on bond before the court hearing and apparently snuck a small razor blade in. There were many people in the courtroom when it happened.

"He stood up and made the comment that he was not going to jail and produced a small razor blade and attempted to kill himself. I immediately saw how severe his injuries was to his left wrist. I took my tie and applied pressure to the wound," said Assistant District Attorney Chester Cedars.

Along with his prison sentence, Frith was ordered to pay a $50,000 fine.
