Judge suspends gay marriage ruling

LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - A Louisiana judge's ruling in favor of same-sex marriage is on hold for now.

The Office of the Louisiana Attorney General filed an appeal Thursday to a ruling by District Judge Edward Rubin of Lafayette. The appeal punts the issue to the Louisiana Supreme Court.

The case involves two women legally married in California, but living in Louisiana and trying to adopt. One of the women is already the child's parent.

Earlier this month, a federal judge in New Orleans upheld the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage in a separate case that is now also in the appeal stage.
