BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Legendary Blues musician Rudy Richard Senior has passed away. Richard died on Sept. 22. He was 77.
His longtime manager and friend says the guitarist and studio session musician was one of the great ones.
“He was truly a blues legend in this town,” said Johnny Palazzotto. “Two weeks ago more than a 1,000 people showed up for his benefit. Every musician adores Rudy Richard."
Palazzotto says Richard's guitar playing simplicity influenced many international guitar players too.
“The sting on "I'm a King Bee" motivated guitarists everywhere to extenuate playing sounds to convey the feeling. Rudy was an innovator of spiritual values."
Funeral arrangements will be held Sept. 26 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3912 Gus Young Avenue, in Baton Rouge. Visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and services at 11 a.m.
