Man killed after running stop sign, colliding with tractor-trailer

State Police say a man has died after running a stop sign and colliding with another vehicle. The crash happened just after 1:30 am Sunday morning on US Hwy 190 at LA Hwy 81 in Pointe Coupee Parish.

An investigation revealed that Michael Jarreau, 43, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 81 as Keith Drumgoole, 50, was traveling westbound on US Hwy 190 in a tractor-trailer. As Jarreau approached the intersection, he failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the right rear corner of Drumgoole's trailer. After hitting the trailer his vehicle rotated and stopped in the eastbound lanes of US Hwy 190.

Jarreau was not wearing a seat belt at the time and suffered fatal injuries. Drumgoole was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

It is unknown whether Jarreau was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples have been submitted for analysis. Impairment is not suspect on Drumgoole's part.
