Two killed in early morning crash

State Police say two men have been killed in a crash that took place early Saturday morning. The crash happened on US Hwy 190 west of LA Hwy 983 in West Baton Rouge Parish, just before 1:30 am.

Investigators say Michael Fornea, 31, and his passenger Jesse Gaudin, 27, were traveling eastbound on US Hwy 190 behind Donnie Snoke, 41, who was also traveling eastbound. As both vehicles were traveling in the right lane, Fornea's vehicle hit the rear of Snoke's vehicle. Even though Fornea and Gaudin were both wearing seat belts at the time, they both sustained fatal injuries. Snoke was also wearing his seat belt but was uninjured.

It is unknown whether driver impairment was a factor in this crash, but troopers do believe that excessive speed played a role. Toxicology samples have been taken from Fornea for analysis. Impairment on Snoke's part is not suspected.
