BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge couple has reunited with their family after being trapped in Cabo, Mexico.
Jennifer Hughes and her boyfriend Teddy Rankin were among thousands of tourists who finally made it home after they were forced to find shelter from Hurricane Odile. The storm tore through the popular vacation destination, snapping trees like twigs and flooding roads. It was reported that the storm had 125 mile per hour winds.
Hughes and Rankin said they had to fight off the wailing winds for hours, eventually retreating to survive in the smallest of places.
"The winds were so high that me and three other guys had to hold the door shut so it wouldn't just blow apart," said Rankin, "We were crammed into a store closet."
Family and friends met Hughes and Rankin at the arrival gate inside the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport Thursday. Hughes said she is ready to get back home to see her kids.
“I thought I was going to miss a homecoming Friday, but it looks like we're going to make it now,” said Hughes who wiped a tear from her eye.
