WEST FELICIANA PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A man was severely burned Wednesday as fire consumed his 7,000 square-foot barn.
The fire broke out just before 11 a.m. on Pittman Road in West Feliciana Parish. Reports say a large gasoline tank started leaking fuel after being hit by a tractor. The owner was trying to stop the leak when the gas ignited, burning the owner. He was burned on his upper body and was taken to Baton Rouge Burn Center by the Louisiana State Penitentiary EMS.
In all the Fire Protection District No. 1 of West Feliciana Parish responded with eight fire trucks and 10 firefighters. Louisiana State Penitentiary Fire Department also responded with several firefighters and equipment. Firefighters worked for hours to extinguish the blaze.
One firefighter was transported by West Feliciana Parish EMS to the hospital for heat exhaustion and muscle cramps. Several other firefighters battled muscle cramps.
The value of the loss estimated to be in excess of $650,000.
