BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The former Director of Facilities for Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center was arrested in Tacoma, Washington Monday morning after being accused of stealing more than $16,000 from the center.

Larry Dale Butler, 49, of New Orleans was hired as the Director of Facilities on June 2, 2014. As part of his duties, he was issued two separate corporate credit cards to use for work-related purposes. On Aug. 11, 2014, Butler contacted the Human Resources manager via email advising he wouldn't be in due to another job opportunity. Butler was immediately terminated.

It was then learned that Butler had $16,201.52 worth of unauthorized charges on the credit cards. Police say Butler acknowledged, through an email to  Human Resources, that he was fully responsible for the charges. Police report Butler has not made any attempt to repay the center.

Butler was arrested by Tacoma Police Department and will be extradited back to Baton Rouge where he faces felony theft charges.
