BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An inmate escaped from custody Wednesday morning after arriving at the East Baton Rouge Parish Courthouse. Reports indicate Clayton Holland took off running and jumped into the Mississippi River near the USS Kidd.
Holland is an inmate from Evangeline Parish who was due in court on charges of forgery theft, among others. He also has an outstanding charge from St. Mary Parish. Holland now has an additional charge of simple escape.
When Holland jumped into the river, a deputy called out to him and told him to get out of the water, so he did.
It took about five minutes for deputies to place Holland back in custody.
Holland's bond has been set at $33,000.
