BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The number of work-related fatalities in Louisiana is down slightly.
According to a preliminary count by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 114 work-related fatalities in 2013, down from 116 in 2012.
The industries reporting the most included trade, transportation and utilities with 37; construction with 17; natural resources and mining with 15; professional and business services with 14, manufacturing 11 and government with nine.
“Overall, the numbers on workplace safety are headed in the right direction because Louisiana's employers have made safety a priority,” said Louisiana Workforce Commission Executive Director Curt Eysink. “The state's workers also are to be commended for doing their part to make their places of work safer.”
