BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police were called to a Baton Rouge elementary school Friday to investigate a child abuse complaint. When officers arrived, they learned a 9-year-old female had been punched in the chest the day before.
Reports say the child and her brothers, ages 6 and 11, have also been abused.
According to the probable cause affidavit, 30-year-old Claude Williams is accused of burning the children with cigarettes, punching and pinching the children. School staff reported to the police the 6-year-old has shown up to school with his eyes swollen shut on several occasions. Both boys have gone to school with burns and bruises on their faces, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit also says the children have reported to the school, on multiple occasions, that Williams was abusing them. School officials say they made several reports to the Department of Children and Family Services, however police say prior to this incident, they had not been notified of any cases of abuse involving Williams or the children.
Police contacted Williams on Saturday and placed him under arrest. During the investigation, police found a small baggie of suspected marijuana in Williams' pocket.
Williams has been charged with cruelty to juveniles and possession of marijuana. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where no bond has been set.
