BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Plans are in place for changes to Louisiana's early childhood system.
As a result of the 2012 legislative session, those changes should be implemented by the fall of 2015.
The Department of Education and Department of Children and Family Services outlined proposed policies and strategies to unify the system.
Louisiana Superintendent of Education John White will set out on his fall tour next week to visit early childhood providers and discuss the process.
"We know it is not going to happen overnight," White said. "I'm talking about a requirement that would not come into actual effect for five years, so that people would have the time needed to pursue these credentials."
According to education officials, the unified enrollment process and teacher report cards are a result of inconsistent standards for students ages five and younger.
