BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The State Police Retirement Board voted Thursday not to defend a lawsuit filed Thursday by Sen. Dan Claitor.

Judge Janice Clark has signed a temporary restraining order against the retirement law.

The suit challenges a recently-passed law that would give State Police Supt. Mike Edmonson a huge pension hike. The legislature passed it in June after it was tacked onto an unrelated bill. The change carries a $300,000 price tag over five years and impacts only two people –Edmonson and another longtime Houma trooper.

Edmonson has said that he will not accept the money.

A hearing is set for Sept. 16.
