BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police are investigating a crash that resulted in the driver and his passenger being ejected, leaving the passenger dead Wednesday night.
The Baton Rouge Police Department identified the victim as Vernon Rogers, 34, of Baton Rouge. The driver's name has not been released, but police reported he is 32 years old.
Investigators said the single-vehicle wreck happened on Scotland Avenue (LA 19) just south of Thomas Road around 10:45 p.m.
Cpl. Don Coppola with BRPD said the preliminary investigation showed a 2003 Jeep Liberty was headed north on Scotland at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. He added the two people inside were not buckled up and were both thrown from the SUV.
Reports indicated Rogers was taken to a hospital where he later died. The driver's condition was not released.
Authorities added alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
No other details were provided by police.
