Lake drawdown will begin for False River restoration

FALSE RIVER, LA (WAFB) -  A lake drawdown will begin on Tuesday, September 2nd as part of the False River Restoration project.

The water reduction will lower its level by 2 to 2.5 feet over the next three weeks. Then, crews will start working on improving the quality of the water and the fisheries habitat by starting construction of the South Flats Island and vegetation planting.

Project organizers advise that property and boat owners should take whatever precautions needed because there may be limited access to boats that are stored on the lake. They also say that while the water is low, it is a good time for repairing and cleaning up docks and piers.

By March 1, 2015, crews will close the control gates and let rain water refill the lake. For more information, you can visit the website of the Pointe Coupee Parish Jury and click on the False River Project tab.
