ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police said a man was killed after the SUV he was driving flipped and he was ejected early Monday morning.
The victim was identified as Robert Falcon Jr., 37, of Maurepas. Troopers reported the crash happened on LA 22 west of LA 16 in Ascension Parish around 3:15 a.m.
Tpr. Jared Sandifer with LSP Troop A said the preliminary investigation showed Falcon was headed east on LA 22 in a 2003 GMC Yukon when the vehicle went off the road in a curve. According to Sandifer, Falcon overcorrected while trying to get back onto the highway and the big SUV rolled several times.
Sandifer stated Falcon was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He added Falcon was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales where he died from his injuries.
Investigators said they do not yet know if impairment was a factor in the accident and per standard procedure for deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of Falcon's blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
This was the fourth deadly crash reported in the area over the Labor Day weekend.
