Fatal motorcycle crash kills MS man in Tangipahoa Parish on I-12

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A Mississippi native died in a fatal motorcycle crash in the early morning on Saturday.

According to the State Police of Troop L, it happened at around 12:45 a.m. on the Interstate 12 eastbound near mile marker 38, just west of the Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish.

Investigators say that 49-year-old Larry Seemann of Oskya, MS lost his life while heading eastbound on the I-12 when he failed to yield on his motorcycle and struck another vehicle. He lost control and was ejected from his motorcycle, and he suffered fatal injuries resulting from the crash. Seemann was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner.

Investigators say that Seemann was not wearing a D.O.T. approved helmet at the time of the crash, and it is unknown whether or not Seemann was impaired.

The driver of the vehicle struck by the motorcycle was wearing his seatbelt, and Troopers say he is not suspected of impairment. Blood samples were still collected to be submitted for a toxicology analysis by the state crime lab.

The State Police of Troop L released the following information:

"Troopers wish to remind motorcyclists that they must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Motorcycle riders can find more information on helmet guidelines and rider safety courses by visiting the Louisiana State Police website. Motorists must also be reminded, during this Labor Day Weekend, that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects."
