BAKER, LA (WAFB) - The 17-year-old boy who shot a 19-year-old Baker girl Thursday night and killed her will not be charged in her murder. Baker Police say the evidence shows that Charmaine Wilson shot Laquincia Wilkerson in self defense.

However, Wilson was charged with several other offenses including possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of firearms, and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Police say they were called to a shooting in the 4300 block of Heath Drive. Officials say Wilkerson was found dead and shot multiple times.

Investigators found that the two had been involved in an ongoing argument over their previous relationship. On the night of the incident, Wilson told detectives he came to the residence to sell mariquana. Wilkerson was there and started cursing at him loudly then removed a weapon from her waistband and begin pointing it at him. Wilson said he pleaded with her to put the gun away, but she didn't so he pulled out his weapon. He said he pleaded with her again to put her weapon down, but when she didn't he started shooting because he feared she was going to shoot him.

Afer the shooting, he ran and hid the weapon at a neighboring residence. Police found the weapon along with marijuana and a digital scale. Officials say several witnesses confirmed Wilson's story.

Wilson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail on the other charges.
