State Police will continue presence in French Quarter

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Dozens of Louisiana State Police credited with making the French Quarter safer will stick around awhile longer.

State Troopers were originally set to leave on Monday, Labor Day, but now the commander says an undetermined number will stay through November.

Residents say they've noticed a difference, but worry that State Police are now carrying the load in the Quarter.

Col. Mike Edmonson says his officers have been effective, having made 500 arrests.
