Mom, daughter rescued in New River flood, putting lives back together

One of the stories that made national news during last week's flood was the daring rescue of a mother and daughter trapped inside their home in New River.

Marcia Fuller, 69, and her daughter Tracie Tumlinson have been living out of a small hotel room, but it sure beats the alternative.

"There's like four feet of mud in different places," said Fuller. "Some of it is still wet in there."

Fuller's house in New River has been transformed into a mountain of mud and dirt, a total loss from last week's flood.

Last Tuesday,  a rescue chopper was called in to pull the mother and daughter out of their house as fast rising raging flood waters trapped them inside.

"I was just worried, as fast as the water was coming, that the house was going to crumble," said Tumlinson.

"It was so surreal," said Fuller. "You were just going from side-to-side,  as big waves of water were hitting."

Both mother and daughter realize that they are lucky to be alive, but now, starts the long, hard road to putting their lives back together.

Tumlinson said they're thankful for all the assistance from friends, neighbors and the Red Cross.

"We lost some clothes and furniture and stuff,  but that's replaceable,"said Tumlinson. "As long as we're safe, that's what matters most."
