BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Officials with ExxonMobil Baton Rouge recently revealed how much of an economic impact their facilities have on the community. Economist Loren Scott revealed the findings from his study conducted this year at a news conference Tuesday.
Everything from cereal boxes to diapers were passed around the room to show how many products are made by ExxonMobil.
Scott took a look at the four ExxonMobil facilities in East Baton Rouge Parish and one in West Baton Rouge Parish to come up with the economic impact report.
"These are jobs that exist not only out here, but jobs that exist in the retail trade sector, hospital sector and construction sector almost 25,000 jobs in our community," Scott says. "About one out of every eight jobs in East Baton Rouge can be traced back to the existence of these facilities."
Scott also says from a tax standpoint Exxonmobil is very important, paying $144 million in taxes in 2013.
