GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -  Two men have been arrested for theft after police say they were involved in stealing more than $1,400 worth of gas in Gonzales.

Reginald Leblanc and Joseph Rodriguez were charged with felony theft and identity theft and unauthorized use of an access card on Aug. 21.

Police say Leblanc from Gonzales used a U.S. Environmental Services (USES) fuel card to purchase 401.5 gallons of diesel fuel. The gas was purchased at a local gas station in Gonzales called Popingo's on LA 44 over a three-week period.

Investigators say Leblanc used a portable tank when purchasing the fuel and he used PIN numbers that were assigned to a number of employees. Police say he confessed to them that Rodriguez, a USES supervisor, provided him with the fuel card and PIN numbers in exchange for $200 each time he used the card.

Officials say Rodriguez admitted taking a card that is used only for emergencies and confirmed that he received the cash from Leblanc.  Rodriguez was also charged with criminal conspiracy.
