CLINTON, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police said a man died after the SUV he was driving went off a highway and slammed into multiple trees Sunday evening.
The victim was identified as Harry Williams Jr., 50, of Clinton. Troopers reported the crash happened on LA 63 north of LA 37 in East Feliciana Parish around 8:45 a.m.
Tpr. Jared Sandifer said the preliminary investigation showed Williams was driving a 1999 Cadillac Escalade north on LA 63 when the SUV went off the road. He added the vehicle then went through a ditch and hit several trees.
According to Sandifer, Williams was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Sandifer also stated impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but as is the case for all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of Williams' blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The accident remains under investigation.
