BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

According to the leaders of the movement for the proposed city of St. George, the number of signatures required for placing the issue on the December ballot for a vote has been reached.

A message went out via social media on the St. George Facebook page, stating the following:

'The East Baton Rouge Parish Registrar of Voters confirmed with us that the required number of signatures needed to put this on a ballot is 17,746. As of today, we have 17,751 signatures collected!'

The post also stated that organizers still need up to 1,500 to 2,000 more signatures before they can turn in the petition. The extra signatures will help to account for any which may be thrown out.

Previously, petitioners were trying to meet the deadline for the November ballot, but they came up short. In order to be placed on the December ballot, they must have the signatures submitted by October.
