BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police have teamed up with Circle K to help clean up the streets with its Gas for Guns event held on Saturday morning..
The exchange allows people to get Circle K Gas cards in exchange for guns with no questions asked. Similar programs in Baton Rouge have taken nearly 500 guns off the streets in the past three years. Community leaders say this is a good way to help create a safer environment for our neighbors and especially our youth.
Mary Brown, who lost her son to violence, turned in a gun and said she is willing to do what she can to help the community.
"If I can keep some away...anything to help somebody else stay alive and not have to go through what I'm going through," said Brown.
