Former hospital worker wanted on theft charges for unauthorized charges on company credit cards

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police are looking for a former cancer hospital employee accused of making more than $15,000 worth of unauthorized charges using corporate credit cards.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Larry Butler, 49, of New Orleans, is wanted on felony theft charges. Detectives said Butler, who worked at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge, used the company cards make personal purchases totaling $16,201.53.

Police said Butler was hired by the hospital on June 2 as the director of facilities and was issued the cards to make work-related purchases. According to investigators, he sent an email to the human resources manager stating he would not be showing up for work because of another job opportunity and was immediately fired.

Authorities said the unauthorized purchases were discovered after his termination. They added another email from Butler acknowledged he was fully responsible for the charges, but has not made any attempts to pay back the money.
