MIAMI, FL (WAFB) - The National Hurricane Center said the showers and thunderstorms associated with an area of low pressure in the Atlantic Ocean remained disorganized Friday morning.

The disturbed area was located north of the Virgin Islands at 7 a.m.

Forecasters said if the system passes over Hispaniola, development through Friday night could be limited. However, they added environmental conditions are expected to be more favorable for development when it moves near the Bahamas on Saturday.

The NHC reported a tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form over the weekend or by early next week.

An Air Force Reserve Hurricane will investigate the area of low pressure Friday afternoon, if necessary.
