MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The marching band at Huntingdon college is taking on the ALS ''ice water challenge''. On Tuesday the school's majorettes, also known as the Hawkettes, started off the challenge.

Previously the Troy University coach put our very own football coach, Coach Turk, to the test by asking him to accept the cold water challenge. When the coach fulfilled his challenge, he inspired and nominated the Hawkettes to take on the challenge.

The Hawkettes plan to challenge the Troy University Majorettes, Auburn University majorettes, Alabama State University stingettes, and the Huntingdon College band staff.

"The miss for Huntingdon is to grow in wisdom and go forth and apply that wisdom in service. Huntingdon Majorette instructor Amanda Patterson says. "We feel like that right there is just exactly what this challenge is doing.  We are educating the people about ALS and also raising money and serving to help raise awareness for Lou Gehrig's disease.
