HOUMA, LA (WAFB) - An elderly woman is in the hospital receiving treatment after police say she was attacked by her son's dog Monday.
The Houma Police Department reported the 71-year-old woman suffered severe cuts and bites to her face, hands and arms. Her name was not released and her condition was not given.
Officers said the attack happened at the woman's home on Ellender Street in East Houma around 8:30 p.m. They added her son was not at home when the attack happened. They also said the dog appears to be a Pit bull mix.
Animal control was called out to the scene and took the dog, an adult male, into custody. According to police, a female dog that was inside the home at the time of the attack was also taken into custody by animal control.
The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
