Authorities have recovered the body of a missing fisherman. The drowning happened on Lake Mitchell close to the Lay Dam.

Marine police say it was just up the lake about 900 feet from the dam where Billy Griffin was fishing Saturday afternoon. Witnesses say all of a sudden he fell out of the boat.Shortly after Authorities began searching for the 68 year old.

The search was stopped around 8 p.m. Saturday and began again Sunday morning. Around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, investigators recovered his body.

"Accidents can occur, you can fall overboard for whatever reason, and hit your head, and if you're knocked Unconscious your life jacket could bring you back up to the surface and save your life," Officer Ty Ray with the Marine Police says.  "Wear your safety shutoff switch if that applies, use good judgement, don't boat and drink alcohol, those are my safety tips."

Authorities are unsure what caused him to fall out of the boat. They say he was not wearing a life jacket. Life jackets are required to be worn if within 800 feet from a dam as apart of state law. Griffin was about 100 feet out of that requirement.

Reporter Hannah Lane spoke with a friend of Griffen who says Bill fished all of his life, fishing in the area almost every night. "He died doing what he loved."
