BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A big crowd gathered on the Bluff for a peaceful demonstration to remember the teenager killed in Missouri Saturday.
Police say Michael Brown was shot and killed after a fight with a police officer in Ferguson, a St. Louis suburb. Brown's friends tell a different story.
Southern students and others at Thursday's vigil say the message of peace is the most important.
“We can rally together, but we don't have to be violent,” says Zana Harris, a student. “We can be peaceful. We can say prayers. We can sing, but you don't have to destroy anything out there.”
