BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting from July.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said Demond Bessie, 23, of Baton Rouge, was arrested Thursday morning. He is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Major Brown, 29, of Baton Rouge, on July 9.

Detectives believe robbery was the motive. They added DNA evidence linked Bessie to the shooting.

Brown was found dead in the front yard of a home on Cate Avenue. Investigators said he had been shot several times.

Police added Bessie was arrested on July 31 in the shooting death of Elbert Marshall, 29. The victim was shot on La Annie Avenue on May 1. Bessie was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of second-degree murder in that shooting.
