WATSON, LA (WAFB) -  Save our Hills, a group of residents near the Oak Hills subdivision in Watson, is requesting a public hearing with the United States Army Corps of Engineers regarding the gravel pit that is being constructed behind their homes.

In the letter, Lisa Jordan, deputy director of the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic, stated that due to the lack of sufficient notice to the affected citizens about this project and the significant issues the application presents, a public hearing should be granted to provide an opportunity for input from these residents.

Jordan says that only three  of the 224 homes that may be adversely impacted by this strip mining operation received actual public notification from the Corps of Engineers.

Residents have already started a petition to protest against the company, Southern Aggregates, which is trying to dig the gravel pit.
